Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Visitors are licensed by the bishop to administer the consecrated bread and wine at any celebration of the Holy Eucharist to assist the celebrant. Lay Eucharistic Visitors are licensed by the bishop to go from a Holy Eucharist to share the sacrament with members who were unable to be present at the celebration due to illness or infirmity.
This is understood to be an extraordinary ministry, and is not to take place of the ministry of priests and deacons concerning the administration of the eucharist.
